You can, it's just that no style/preset, which is the default, has 180 in sharpening.

Phase One don't seem very technically adept - you only have to look at their minimum requirements and then try to install it unsuccessfully on some newer windows hardware to find out (e.g Bay Trail is somewhat newer than "core 2 duo" yet it won't work which according to Phase One is because the processors don't support 64 bit, even though they run 64 bit versions of windows and Intel clearly state they are 64 bit and support 圆4 etc - I'm inclined to believe Intel more than Phase One).

C1 Pro 8 was unbearably unreliable on windows 10 and crashed all the time, and I saw some reports from people using Pro 9 who seemed to have the same problems (eating up system resources and leaking memory until either C1 or the entire machine crashed). Never understood why it appears to have no concept of input and output sharpening, so its never clear which type the sharpening controls are supposed to be for.ĭoes C1 still leak memory on Windows (or are you using it on Mac).

Re: Lightroom: Don't want a proprietary DAM.Īs for performance: I didn't notice much of an increase in going from a mechanical drive to an ssd (raw storage) but it is literally twice as fast at showing previews with an i5 6400 than an FX6300.Ĭ1 free for Sony doesn't allow you to change sharpening? Wow. Colors, since I haven't learnt C1s color handling, are most often better with DXO. Gradients in the sky and aliasing are consistently noticably less in C1 jpegs than DXOs jpegs, no matter what resampling method is used in the latter. C1 free for Sony defaults to (and I've been unable to change it) too much sharpening ("180") which makes almost every image look comical at 100%. We recommend this program to intermediate and advanced users. In terms of preset IQ: Non-straight lines often appear aliased, i.e jagged, elsewise I have no complaints. It installs a desktop icon without asking but uninstalls cleanly.

Optics Pro's Help file is actually a comprehensive user manual, and an included visual guide acts as the quick-start guide for users who want to jump right in.ĭxO Optics Pro has a 31-day trial period. The Review module gives users a summary of their session's work, as well as the option to export directly to Flickr. The nostalgic photographer will enjoy the included film simulators, which mimic the properties of many popular film types. The standard raw editing features are all here, but Optics Pro also provides sophisticated distortion correction controls that allow the shooter not only to correct for a particular chosen vantage point, but also factor in the unique camera and lens combination used for the photograph. Here users are presented with two panels: the photo presented on the left, and a scrolling list of tools along the right. Select, Prepare, Process, and Review modules separate the tasks most photographers will use to process their images, but the Process module is where DxO Optics Pro really shines. The program features a very intuitive workflow. That's definitely not something you see every day. The DxO online database allows users to select from any number of manufacturers' camera bodies and lenses, and then use the optical characteristics of said cameras and lenses to fine-tune their images and correct for the particular shortcomings on Camera X or Lens Y. In a world overflowing with image-editing software, DxO Optics Pro is a shining star.
